Artemis II launched April 1, 2026 at 6:35 p.m. EDT and splashed down in the Pacific off San Diego on April 10. Free Return places the crew's photographs where and when they were taken on Orion's real path, rebuilt from the spacecraft position NASA logged with each photo.

## 1. Launch

April 1, 2026, 6:35 p.m. EDT. Four astronauts leave Florida for the first crewed flight beyond Earth orbit since 1972.

## 2. High Earth orbit

A day looping around Earth to check out Orion: life support, navigation, manual flying.
